History of the Gallery
The Galleria was built to modernize the city of Milan in 1859. It was named after the first king of the kingdom of Italy, Victor Emmanuel II. For Italians, the Galleria symbolizes unity as it was the starting point for modern shopping malls all across the world. This beautiful place is a must-see during your stay in Milan.
The floor of the Galleria is made up of lovely mosaic tiles each representing a different district. The tradition of the mall involves the torino, or the mosaic bull found on the Galleria’s floor. Legend has it that if you spin around the bull three times on your heel, you will have good luck! This specific spot on the bull even has a deep indentation where visitors spin to receive their good luck.
